District Level Campaign Committee formed in WGH

TURA: West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh has informed that in pursuance of the notification issued by the Government of India, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, New Delhi, the “District Level Nasha Mukt Campaign Committee” was constituted in West Garo Hills, Tura recently.

The committee has Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, Tura as Chairman of the committee while Chairman, Tura Municipal Board, Superintendent of Police, Tura, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Tura, CEO, Tura Municipal Board, Joint Director, School Education and Literacy, District Medical & Health Officer, District Social Welfare Officer, Tura,  State Coordinator of PMU, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, District School Education Officer, Child Development Officer, Urban ICDS, Tura President/ Secretary,  Adil Gandhian Society, Shri J D Sangma, Retired MCS Officer and Smti R D Marak, Retired IAS Officer as members of the committee.

The functions of the committee is to ensure formulation and implementation of District Nasha Mukt Campaign, conducting awareness generations programmes in schools and colleges in the district for teachers, students and parents, forming student clubs in colleges to discuss and spread awareness, identification of victims and users and taking/ referring them to rehabilitation centres or hospitals for counselling and treatment, monitoring of counselling and treatment facilities in the district, ensuring strict implementation of ban on sale of cigarettes within 100 metres from any educational institutions, obtaining information on the availability/ sale of drugs and review the action taken on such information and visit to the institutions, hospitals who are providing services. Further, the committee will also conduct programmes for the service providers at district level and below district level, increase community participation and public cooperation, have social media strategy for the District Campaign and implementation of the same, give feedback on the progress to the State Level Campaign Committee and to the Ministry and to identify volunteers in the community, giving them ID card badge, training them as a community peer for spreading awareness in the community (online training module would be supplied by the Ministry).

Meanwhile, a direction has also been given by the Deputy Commissioner to all SMCs/ Nokmas/ VECs/ Women SHGs to prevent school buildings and other public premises in the district from using it for anti social activities and to file FIRs for repeated offenders.
