SHILLONG: The Sordar of Raid Kongthong, Sylloklang Majaw and dealer of Kongthong Fair Price Shop Centre, Stogent Lynrah, termed the allegations against them regarding rice distribution as unfounded.
They also said it was only to damage their reputation.
The Sordar said that he received a letter from the office of Sub Divisional Officer, Sohra (Supply) directing to select a dealer for the Kongthong Fair Price Shop Centre for 2020, for which an announcement was made on December 10 to choose a dealer.
He said that a Dorbar was convened and attended by many residents in which the name of Lynrah was proposed and accepted by the dorbar.
He said there was opposition to the convening of the dorbar as the residents did not accept him as the sordar of the Raid even though he received a sanad from the Syiem of Hima Sohra and also approved by the District Council.
The dorbar held on December 10, decided to go ahead with approving Lynrah as the dealer as the majority of the people accepted him. New members of the Vigilance Committee of the centre were also elected.
Majaw said that Homi Khongsit and Tralsing Riahtam opposed the Sordar Raid Kongthong and made it known to the office of the SDO Sohra.
Due to the opposition, there was delay in approving Lynrah as the dealer by the SDO’s office and Majaw was handed the charge to distribute rice to the residents.
Majaw said that he convened a meeting of the vigilance committee and the executive committee of the Raid on January 27 in which it was decided that PHH and AAY rice be sold at Rs 5 by including the cost for transportation and payment to people engaged in distribution of rice.
It was on June 17 that Lynrah’s name was cleared as the dealer and he distributed rice by following all protocols.
The sordar has thanked the office of the SDO Sohra (Supply) for distributing rice to the 36 families who refused to take rice from the dealer.
