District panel meet on crimes against women

TURA: The District Level Co-ordination Committee, South West Garo HIlls on Tuesday held a meeting on Crimes Against Women at the office chamber of the Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the Committee, A. M. Sangma to review the cases of Crimes against women in the district, particularly those pertaining to domestic violence.

The meeting was attended by the Committee members including the District Police Chief, Rituraj Ravi, District Social Welfare Officer & Member-Secretary, Linda J. Sangma, DMHO-incharge, Dr. Lydia Marak, Fr. Joseph of St. Claret Mission, besides other members.

During the meeting, the committee heard the report on crimes against women and domestic violence from both the Police and DSWO, respectively, which was later discussed upon by the members present.  The Deputy Commissioner & Chairman later stressed the need for the Committee also address wider range of issues relating to crimes against women other than domestic violence alone and also called for creating awareness regarding such crimes, including child marriage, right down to the grassroots level.
