SHILLONG: The Federation of Khasi States (FKS), on Monday, met state BJP president Ernest Mawrie and handed over a contribution of Rs 1 lakh 15 thousand to the PM CARES Fund, while also submitting extracts of the summary of recommendations of the Vajpayee-led National Commission for Review of the Working of the Constitution (NCRWC).
Speaking to the press here, the adviser and spokesperson of FKS, John Kharshiing, said that the recommendations of the NCRWC submitted to Mawrie, which would be given to BJP spokesperson, Nalin Kohli.
Kharshiing said that late BJP Prime Minister AB Vajpayee constituted a committee to review the Constitution, which submitted the NCRWC report to the Government of India on March 31, 2002.
The report pointed out that the number of seats in each of the Autonomous District Councils in Meghalaya should be increased by 10, i.e., to a total number of 40 seats. Of the 10 additional seats with regard to non-representation of women and non-tribals, the Governor may nominate up to five members from these categories to each of the ADCs, it added. The other five may be elected by Syiems and Myntris from among themselves in the KHADC, by Dolois from among themselves to the JHADC and by Nokmas from among themselves to the GHADC.
