SHILLONG: The exporters in the Dawki border have urged the state government to allow transportation of limestone with the limit prescribed before COVID-19.
The written plea of the exporters on Friday came after the government wanted a change in the quantity of limestone to be exported to Bangladesh as per a notification issued in July.
The notification issued by the government in July said that 6 wheeler-trucks should carry 12 metric tonnes of limestone instead of 9 metric tonnes and 10 wheeler-trucks should carry 21 metric tonnes instead of 15 metric tonnes.
However, the concern of the exporters is that they had already procured transport challans of 9 metric tonnes for 6 wheelers and 15 metric tonnes for 10 wheelers issued in March this year.
“We request the Transport department to allow us to complete all challans of 9 metric tonnes and 15 metric tonnes respectively issued before the COVID pandemic”, the exporters said.
The Meghalaya International Exporters Chamber of Commerce has already written to the government to address the issue.
