SHILLONG: With the threat of community spread of COVID-19 looming large in the state, the government is gearing up to meet any eventuality by exploring the idea of setting up more Corona Care Centres to take care of positive patients.
Health Minister AL Hek on Friday said that the government was aware of sudden spike in the number of COVID-19 cases over the last one week.
“There is a spike in cases and it is heading towards community spread and more Corona Care Centres are required otherwise the State government will not be able to accommodate positive patients ,” Hek said
) after inaugurating the 68-bed Corona Care Centre at TB Hospital, Umsawli.
The state government is already on the job and identifying more places to open Corona Care Centres.
The Health Minister said that this particular Corona Care Centre will also ease the burden building up due to the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases.
To a query whether the state government has failed in proper assessment of the situation as it is now heading towards community spread, the Health Minister said that they are assessing the situation and the doctors and health workers are working hard day in and out to contain and control the spread.
“Meghalaya is one of the best performing states in this regard,” he asserted.
Making it clear that if there is a spread they can only try to contain it, the Health Minister said that with the strong team of health workers, handling the situation should not be a problem.”They are working hard day and night to save the precious lives of our people,” he added.
