Attack on cops took place in Umbir, clarifies headman

NONGPOH: Soon after miscreants hurled petrol bombs and pelted stones at a patrolling police vehicle in Ri Bhoi, the Headman of Mawlyndep village, Jinu Kharbuki, on Thursday informed The Shillong Times that the place of the incident does not fall under his jurisdiction — Mawlyndep.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of Umbir village, PJ Kurbah, said that the area where the incident occurred falls under Umbir village while strongly condemning the miscreants involved in the unscrupulous activity.
“We have always been coordinating with the police to maintain peace and harmony in the village and we will continue to do so. It is very unfortunate that the incident happened in our village. We strongly condemn those involved in this crime,” Kurbah said
As many as five personnel of the Meghalaya Police SF-10 had sustained burn injuries in the incident recently.
