SWKH MLAs want smooth implementation of road project

MAWKYRWAT: The MLA of Mawkyrwat Constituency, Renikton L Tongkhar, and the MLA of Ranikor Constituency, Pius Marwein, have called for joint efforts to ensure that the two-lane Mawngap-Mawkyrwat-Ranikor road project in South West Khasi Hills district is not hindered and is implemented smoothly.
The MLAs were speaking at a public consultation on the development of the two-lane road on Friday, which was organised by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, South West Khasi Hills District, in collaboration with the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL), Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Government of India.
The programme was attended Deputy Commissioner Isawanda Laloo, SDO of Ranikor Civil Sub-Division HS Diengdoh, executive engineers of both Mawkyrwat and Ranikor Division, Syiems (Chief) of Hima Maharam and Hima Langrin, and Myntris of different villages.
Speaking on the occasion, Tongkhar expressed happiness over the road project finally starting to see the light of day with the Global Infra Solutions now ready to prepare the detailed project report.
He said that the most important thing in ensuring smooth implementation of the project is the cooperation between the district administration, Syiems, Myntris, NGOs and the general public.
Tongkhar further exhorted the stakeholders to work together so that the development activities in the district are not disrupted.
While expressing fear that conflicts between landowner may emanate due to land compensation, he requested the Myntri to help and cooperate with district administration so that the project can be smoothly implemented.
Meanwhile, Ranikor MLA, Pius Marwein, requested the Syiems, Myntris, Clans and NGOs to cooperate so that the project development is not hindered.
