SHILLONG: Toeing expected lines, the state government on Tuesday effected a major change in the Power department, appointing Arunkumar Kembhavi as the Chief Managing Director of MeECL and its three subsidiaries — Meghalaya Power Generation Corporation Limited (MePGCL), Meghalaya Power Transmission Corporation Limited (MePTCL) and Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MePDCL).
Incumbent CMD, A Nikhla has been relieved of her responsibilities.
In another reshuffle, David D Sangma, Joint Secretary, Transport department has been given additional responsibility of the Power department.
The reshuffle was expected as engineers and employees of MeECL were unhappy with the style of functioning of Nikhla, a junior officer, and were demanding appointment of a senior IAS officer to take over the ailing Corporation and change its fortunes.
The Opposition Congress had also come down heavily on Nikhla over alleges mismanagement of affairs in the MeECL.
