SHILLONG: A great deal of ruckus broke out after as many as 14 candidates were nominated for the four-year B.Sc (Hon) course at College of Agriculture, Imphal, with various organisations crying foul over the move.
In continuation of the series of opposition, the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC), on Monday, asked the government to withdraw the nomination and issue a fresh list, while threatening to agitate if the concerned department fails to fulfil its demand.
The organisation has written to the Director of Agriculture (R & T) seeking clarification on the nomination of candidates for pursuing the course under state quota.
The organisation said that the fresh list should be prepared in accordance to the provisions of the reservation policy of the state so that locals can avail the opportunity.
The HYC said that it will pressure the department to withdraw the advertisement related to the issue, which would prove to be beneficial for the local youths.
Pointing out at the list of the 14 students comprising four from Khasi-Jaintia (ST category), seven from Garo (ST category), two from SC category and one from OT (Other Tribes), the HYC said that the government has violated the provision of the reservation policy by nominating only four students belonging to Khasi-Jaintia communities while a greater number of students, seven, from Garo community.
“As per the Reservation Policy of the state, there should be reservation of 40 per cent seats in favour of Khasi and Jaintias, 40 per cent also in favour of Garos, five per cent in favour of other tribes and the remaining for General category,” the organisation stated.
