SHILLONG: Police on Sunday arrested three persons for allegedly peddling/dealing in drugs, while a truck driver was also arrested after the police seized five packets of Yaba tablets from the vehicle along the Shillong Bypass.
Around afternoon, police received information that three persons were detained by the locality members in 3rd Mile, Upper Shillong, who detected some suspicious activity.
After receiving the inputs, a team of ANTF led by DSP City, B Jyrwa, along with the officer in-charge of Jhalupara, Wycliff Momin, Sector Officer, DSP, Anti-Infiltration, SA Marak, and Night Supervising Officer, CM Ranee, rushed to the spot.
After a thorough search of the detained person, a container with four packets of drugs, wrapped in a piece of paper and weighing 0.65 grams, suspected to be heroin, was recovered from the possession of one Manbhalang Dympep (25), resident of Laban Last Stop.
The police also recovered Rs 45,000 — reportedly money accumulated from peddling of drugs — from the possession of Pheryl Wahlang (26), Dympep’s friend.
An alleged buyer, Biangbor Nongsiej (24), resident of 3rd Mile, was also arrested, who admitted to be a consumer and came to buy heroin from them.
In the morning, the DSP-led ANTF team along with Diengpasoh Police set up a naka checking at the bypass and intercepted a truck at 8 am on suspicions of trafficking drugs.
After conducting a search, the team recovered a jute bag containing five sealed packets of Yaba tablets from the ceiling of the truck’s cabin.
The preliminary test indicated that the drugs were positive for methamphetamine. The total weight of the packets of tablets was around 5 kg. The truck was loaded with IMFL beer and was en route to Agartala from Guwahati.
The driver of the truck, Mithan Nama (31), resident of Gopalpur, North Tripura, has been arrested and a case at Diengpasoh Police Station has been registered for further investigation.
