SHILLONG: Jumping on the growing bandwagon of protests against the state government’s move to extend the term of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) executive committee by six months, the State BJP — a constituent of the ruling MDA coalition — has expressed its opposition to the proposed move.
BJP State president Ernest Mawrie on Tuesday demanded election of a new EC to carry on development activities in the backward Garo Hills region.
Earlier, lone NCP legislator Saleng Sangma, also an MDA coalition partner, had opposed the move to extend the tenure of the council.
