Jail Road to reopen today

SHILLONG: To break the chain of COVID-19, shops and business establishments in Jail Road were closed from Sunday to Tuesday and it is all set to reopen on Wednesday.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, headman of Jail Road, Prasenjit Dey said that the road starting from Jail Road Petrol Pump up to Polo Towers Hotel market was closed. There are 100-150 shops that remained closed in the area.
“Positive cases have started coming up and to break the chain, shops and business establishments were closed because the Jail road market is crowded”, he said adding that the market area was also sanitized.
He said that there were no cases on Tuesday as per the information he has received. Most of the residents have also got themselves tested.
So far, there is a total of 20-22 positive cases till date in Jail road. “Today, we received no positive case which is a good thing”, he said.
Asked about his observation on the COVID cases in Jail road, he expressed concern that its residents are working in Iewduh and many other places/localities as well. Not all shopkeepers are residents of Jail Road but are from Pynthorumkhrah and other localities.
With regard to monitoring the wearing of masks by the public, Dey said that the COVID committee in Jail Road monitors this.
