TURA: Swift action from law enforcement agencies in Garo Hills led to the successful rescue of three traders and arrest of the kidnappers’ gang from Dadenggre region of West Garo Hills on Monday night.
The criminal gang from that area had abducted three traders from Chibinang who had gone to Magalpara village in a Mahindra pick-up vehicle to unload a shipment of bricks for construction purposes on Saturday last. Magalpara is located between Dadenggre and Chibinang.
After holding the traders captive in a jungle hideout, the criminals called up the victims’ families, demanding ransom for their release.
“As soon as we got to know of the abduction, we constituted a special team headed by Shailendra Bamaniya, IPS, and additional SP of Tura along with officers from Dadenggre, Phulbari, Tura CCIC and Purakhasia. The team was specifically tasked to rescue the victims and arrest the abductors as soon as possible,” said West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, MGR Kumar.
Based on intelligence, police found out about the ransom payment and arrested the man who was tasked with collecting the ransom.
Subsequent to his confession, police teams launched an operation inside the Magalpara-Kantanagre forests and busted the hideout, thereby arresting two kidnappers and safely rescued the traders.
A country-made pistol used by the criminals to subjugate the traders was also seized along with some ammunitions.
