SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union, North Khasi Hills District Unit, on Wednesday felicitated a youth hailing from Umden Arka village under Bhoirymbong in Ri Bhoi for rescuing four persons from drowning in Umiam River recently.
On August 12, 16-year-old, Wanlambok Rani, risked his life to save the lives of four people who had gone to Umiam River for bathing and washing clothes.
Acknowledging his act of heroism, the members of KSU visited the village and felicitated the young boy with a memento and cash as a token of appreciation and encouragement.
Lauding the courage of the boy, the leaders also exhorted the Ri Bhoi District Administration to provide necessary help to boy’s family.
Meanwhile, the village leaders have said that this is not the first time that Wanlambok has saved a life. “Previously, he had also saved the life of two other souls,” the village leaders said.
