SHILLONG: The stalemate pertaining to the much-awaited Iawmusiang supermarket project in Jowai is likely to be finally over with the JHADC Executive Member in-charge, Civil Works Department, Phasmon Dkhar, assuring that the work for the project would resume anon.
|It may be mentioned that Dkhar has received Rs 69.20 lakh for resuming the project.
“The construction work would resume as soon as the contractor is paid the money,” he said, while thanking the local MLA, Wailadmiki Shylla, and Chief Minister Conrad Sangma for pushing the project that had remained defunct for ages.
The project, which is expected to make a difference to the economy of the area, has been gathering dust ever since the DoNER ministry sanctioned it in 2001.
It is said that the Council had utilised the first instalment of Rs 6.33 crore, released by the ministry for the project, to construct the ground floor and parking lots and allied work.
It may be noted that the DoNER ministry had sanctioned Rs 20.09 crore, including seven per cent agency charge, for the project.
However, after the National Building Construction Company (NBCC) resisted the launch of the project despite signing an MoU, the JHADC handed it over to the state PWD in August 2009.
