SHILLONG: Local artists of Meghalaya, with a plethora of talents in diverse fields, have displayed extravagant work of art throughout the years.
This time, recognising the work of Wanphrang K Diengdoh is 108 Media, one of the global distribution business delivering compelling and concise content solutions, which has picked Meghalaya’s own, award-winning documentary/non-fiction filmmaker and music producer, Diengdoh’s movie, Lorni – The Flaneur.
The 108 Media, which scouts for unique, diverse and compelling content, and has partners like HBO, Netflix, Hulu and astro, has acquired the world sales rights of Diengdoh’s movie, that will be pitched by enterprise on the sidelines of the Toronto International Film Festival this week.
Expressing happiness over the selection of his documentary, Wanphrang K Diengdoh said, “Success smells like Tungrymbai in Dawki on a winter evening”.
Speaking about his movie Lorni – The Flaneur, Diengdoh said, “With Lorni, that I made starring Adil Hussain, I wanted to show to the world that we can create content that is of international standards, has quality to it, but still deeply rooted in the context and philosophies and the tradition of the people that comes from this place (Meghalaya)”. “It is such a joy to see that even if we don’t have a blooming film industry, there is huge potential for this place to also nurture filmmaking talent from the region,” he added.
Asked how challenging a journey it is, Diengdoh said, “It has been difficult as most of the post-production facilities are not available here. I had to go all the way to Mumbai to get things done. Thanks to the people I work with. They have been extremely helpful. They saw what I was trying to do and shared my vision and it was really encouraging”.
He informed that most of the post-production team members from the movie are locals between 25-26 years of age.
In a message to budding filmmakers of the state, Diengdoh said, “One should have perseverance to consistently and constantly keep on doing what you are striving to do”.
108 Media will also be producing Diengdoh’s next two films — Death (aka Iaw-Paw) and Stories of the Street — which are a part of his Trauma Trilogy.
