TURA: A dreaded criminal, who was the mastermind behind the kidnapping of a villager from Rengdim in West Khasi Hills, was on Wednesday apprehended by East Garo Hills Police and his hideout busted during a raid.
Police had been on the lookout for the kidnapping kingpin, Bronson Momin, after one Rintu Marak was kidnapped from Rendim by his gang in July this year. Momin managed to evade police raids conducted at Rongjeng, while all his gang members were apprehended from Rongjeng and Rongmil areas.
According to police, Momin went into hiding in the dense jungle of Gabil Koksi since the kidnapping and was attempting to procure sophisticated arms and expand his group to commit various heinous crimes in the bordering areas of East, North and South Garo Hills as well as West Khasi Hills.
After receiving reliable information about his movements from Gabil Koksi area, a special team of SF-10 commandos was dispatched by the East Garo Hills Superintendent of Police and Momin was arrested during a raid at his hideout at Nengtek Gabil Koksi forest.
During the raid, police were also able to recover a dummy AK 47, SBBL shotgun, air pistol, Khukri and a mini-solar panel.
