Prog promotes improvement of nutritional outcomes

SHILLONG: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), East Garo Hills, organised a programme to promote improvement of nutritional outcomes for children, pregnant women and lactating mothers on Thursday in line with the observation of Poshan Maah 2020.
Senior Scientist and Head of KVK, Brijendra Singh, gave a welcome address and spoke about the objectives of Poshan Abhiyan.
East Garo Hills DC, Swapnil Tembe, who was speaking on the occasion, stressed on the importance to identify and track severe acute malnutrition in children during the Poshan month.
Highlighting the high amount of soda consumption among people from Garo community, the DC said that it disrupts the iron absorption function of the body.
Silje A Sangma, DPO of ICDS, also dwelt at length the importance of combating malnutrition in lactating mothers.
