NONGPOH: Umsning MLA, Jason Sawkmie Mawlong, has assured the village leaders of fulfilling various requirements of the weekly market of Mawlyndep village in a bid to boost the livelihood and income of the farming community which has been badly affected by COVID-19.
Mawlong said this during an inspection of the weekly market.
The MLA has also assured that he, along with local MDC Macdalyn Sawkmie Mawlong, will work together to fulfil the necessary requirements of the market.
It may be mentioned that most of the people of Mawlyndep, following the lockdown, have been subjected to hurdles to market their produce.
It was only after this that the village headman, Jinu Kharbuki, took the decision to set up a makeshift market so that the farmers can sell their produce and successfully eke out a living amid the pandemic.
Kharbuki has now said with the success of the market, the village has decided to shift it to a more spacious location and keep it permanently open.
The MLA along with the village leaders also inspected the new proposed site for the market located on scenic hills beside the Umiam Lake.
