SHILLONG: A day after the tenure of incumbent NEHU Vice Chancellor Prof SK Srivastava was extended, the state government has revealed that it recently submitted a letter to the Ministry of Education seeking a full-fledged Vice Chancellor for the varsity.
Speaking to a section of the press on Wednesday, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that though the state government has limited role in the appointment of the Vice Chancellor of a Central university, they submitted their views to the Ministry recently when he and Chief Minister Conrad Sangma visited Delhi.
“We have voiced our opinion on appointment of a full-fledged Vice Chancellor for the next five years. It seems that the Ministry is still working out (the procedures) hence it has extended the tenure of the incumbent VC”, he said.
Tynsong also had a word of advice for the incumbent Vice Chancellor.
“All I want to say is that the incumbent Vice Chancellor should understand the matter so as to ensure that everything is smooth otherwise it will affect the reputation of NEHU which was once a premier institution recognised across the nation”, he said.
