Two more SBI staff test positive
NONGSTOIN: Five days after the SBI Nongstoin Branch was shut after two staff tested positive for COVID-19, the situation continues to remain grim as another two tested positive on Thursday. Dr L Mawsor in-charge of Corona Care Centre on Thursday informed that among the other SBI employees, who were under quarantine, two more tested positive for COVID-19. The SBI staff that tested positive on Thursday were brought to Nongstoin CCC for treatment. Official sources said that the SBI branch will continue to remain shut.

Timing for opening of shops in WGH
TURA: West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner has allowed shops to open in West Garo Hills from 8 am to 5 pm on Mondays to Saturdays. A statement from the DC said that the restriction on the movement of individuals along the interstate border areas of Assam will be from 9 pm to 5 am. Other restrictions and relaxations will remain as per earlier orders.

Opposition to waste disposal in rivers
SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) has petitioned Urban Affairs Minister Hamlet Dohling on the disposal of wastes in Wah Umkhrah and Wah Umshyrpi. In a memorandum to the Minister, the HANM said that haphazard disposal of solid waste has polluted the river which poses threats and health risks to people. The organisation has urged the government to take corrective measures so as to ensure no life is affected by the foul smell and wastes being thrown over the area.

Fit India Freedom Run 2020
NONGSTOIN: The office of the District Sport Officer in collaboration with the District Sports Promotion Society and District Programme Officer (DPO) ICDS Cell, West Khasi Hills District, organised the ‘Fit India Freedom Run 2020’ and an awareness programme on Poshan Maah under the theme ‘Running: The human body’s most raw form of FREEDOM’ at the office compound of the Deputy Commissioner on Thursday. The programme was attended by West Khasi Hills DC, T Lyngwa, DPO ICDS Cell, Nongstoin, B Nengnong, DSO, PB War Nongbri, among others.

MLA condoles death of journo
SHILLONG: South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai has condoled the recent demise of the Editor of U Nongsain Hima, Lambok Thabah. Expressing solidarity with the bereaved family of late Thabah, Shullai expressed shock and sorrow over his untimely death. “(Late) Bah Lam was a renowned social worker and the longest-serving Editor of U Nongsain Hima, who actively involved himself in various social and welfare activities in leading the committees of the sports and cultural clubs as well as youth welfare organisations”, the MLA said in a statement. “He will be remembered for his impeccable service”, he added.
