GUWAHATI: Fresh wave of flood has claimed one more life at Kampur in Assam’s Nagaon district while a population over 1.78 lakh are affected in five districts of the state, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) informed on Saturday evening.
Nagaon remains the worst affected district in terms of population affected with over 1.47 lakh hit by the fourth wave of floods while Morigaon, West Karbi Anglong, Dhemaji and Lakhimpur have relatively number of people affected by the deluge.
A crop area of 6437 hectares across the five districts has been affected by the current wave of floods.
According to the Central Water Commission, the river Brahmaputra is flowing above danger level at Neamatighat in Jorhat district, the Jia Bharali at NT Crossing in Sonitpur while Kopili is in spate at Kampur in Nagaon district.
With the latest casualty, the overall flood death toll in the state has gone up to 118, ASDMA sources confirmed.
