Plaint over collapse of retaining wall at NH-6
NONGPOH: A social activist from Ri Bhoi, on Monday, filed a complaint with Umsning Police Outpost regarding the collapse of a retaining wall on National Highway-6 at Umran Dairy in the district. The activist, Kronding Nongbsap, in his complaint, alleged that substandard quality of materials have been used in construction of the retaining wall, which has put the lives of people and their property in danger. “The wall was poorly constructed without any expertise. I urge you to kindly investigate the matter and book the persons involved as per law,” the FIR said, adding that this involves corruption and misuse of public funds. He also urged the police to find out details of the Detail Project Report (DPR) including the name of party or person who was allotted construction work of the wall, its cost and officials involved in allotting the contract work.

State NHRC to function online
SHILLONG: In a bid to increase efficiency in the functioning of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and to encourage paperless working, the Commission has decided to transition to online mode. “For this purpose, software used in the Complaint Management Information System (CMIS) has been improved and every document is being converted in the digital form, the case files are being maintained and examined in digital form and the communications are sent to the public authorities as well as the complainants through email: [email protected]. The public authorities have also been requested to send their reports using HRC Net Portal www.hrcnet.nic.in,” a statement on Monday said. “Public authorities are also requested that correct email IDs be updated on the official websites and the communications received from the Commission through email may be transmitted/forwarded to the concerned answerable public servant by the recipient under intimation to the Commission,” the statement said.

More containment zones in WJH
JOWAI: The West Jainta Hills District Magistrate has declared the house and compound of Lamwan Pasweth, Heisuk Kyndiah, Pynhunlanki Toi, as micro-containment zone until further order. The decision comes in the wake of the detection of COVID-19 cases/high-risk contactw in Iongpiah, Jowai. Directives with regard to people movement will remain the same as per earlier orders.

Ban on sale of GM seeds
NONGPOH: The District Magistrate of Ri Bhoi has prohibited sale and cultivation of illegal or unapproved genetically-modified (GM) seeds within the jurisdiction of the district. The order comes in the wake of reports of illegal sale/ cultivation of illegal or unapproved GM seed in Ri Bhoi.
