Recognition for COVID warriors of Nongkrem

SHILLONG: In a bid to ensure that the selfless contribution of frontline COVID warriors in the state do not go unnoticed, Chairman of the State Planning Board, Lambor Malngiang, felicitated the ASHAs and Anganwadi workers of Nongkrem Constituency at Salem Secondary School, Laitkor, on Tuesday.
As many as 63 ASHAs and 80 Aganwadi workers were felicitated with a memento and an incentive of Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000, respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Lambor Malngiang, who is also the MLA of Nongkrem Constituency, said that he has taken up the issue of revising the remuneration of ASHAs and Aganwadi workers of the state with the Centre and is awaiting response.
He also lauded the ASHAs and Aganwadi workers for performing their duties with dedication and without fear despite the outbreak of COVID-19.
Appreciating their exemplary efforts in reaching out to the society and providing individual training to the people at the grassroots level on the dos and don’ts of tackling COVID-19, Lambor said that the workers have immensely contributed in the ongoing battle against an “enemy without a face”.
Informing that the felicitation was a small gesture to recognise their efforts, Malngiang urged the ASHAs and Aganwadi workers to keep up the good work.
On the occasion, Banjoblang Lyngdoh Mawlong, a volunteer, who has been dispensing his duties for five months without break at the Smit Quarantine Centre, was also felicitated.
A report on the activities and initiatives taken by local MLA and MDC of Nongkrem Constituency since the outbreak of the disease was also read out.
