Meet discusses aftermath of downpour

NONGSTOIN: The West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner convened a meeting to discuss about the matters pertaining to the after-effects of the recent incessant downpour.
The rainfall had triggered floods and landslides, disrupting power supply in the district. The most affected areas were in Nongstoin town, including over 12 villages. The Engineer of PHE, Nongstoin Division said that the downpour has damaged main pipelines to all major parts of Nongstoin, thereby making potable water inaccessible.
The damage done is yet to be assessed and work has kicked off since September 29.The PHE department has sent its staff to the affected areas to assess and repair the damage. It was also reported that the department’s first focus will be to repair those villages that fall under the town area.
