Cabinet decision to exempt students’ fees sought
TURA: The state government has been urged to take a Cabinet decision to exempt 50 per cent of school and college fees for the period between March and December. The appeal to the government in this connection was made by the All Meghalaya Minority Students’ Union (AMMSU) in their memorandum submitted to Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Tuesday. “Many parents and guardians, especially from the plains of West Garo Hills, have raised this issue as they are finding it difficult to pay the full amount due to the lockdown and its restrictions in view of COVID-19,” the AMMSU informed in the memorandum. According to the AMMSU, the exemption should be done for both private and public institutions of the state, keeping in view the greater interest of the general citizens.
WKH prohibits road construction, quarrying along highways
NONGSTOIN: The District Magistrate of West Khasi Hills has prohibited illegal construction of private kutcha road and digging or quarrying of stone along the Shillong-Nongstoin road (NH-44E) and Nongstoin-Rongjeng-Tura road (NH 127B). The district magistrate, in an order, said that such activities will likely lead to loosening of soil and accidents. The order said that violators will be prosecuted and vehicles/machineries used will be confiscated by the concerned authorities.
Orders on containment in WJH
JOWAI: The District Magistrate of West Jaintia Hills, on Tuesday, lifted the containment order from residences and compound of (L) Lamwan Pasweth, Heisuk Kyndiah and Pynhunlangki Toi of Iongpiah. In another order, the district magistrate declared the residences owned by Wiwo Siangbood, Rihun Kharuki, Diamon Challan of Tpep Pale, Jowai, and Bunki Lanong, Soilin Lanong, Poibiang Lanong of Chilliang Raij, Jowai as micro-containment areas.
Ri Bhoi DC for adherence to SOPs
NONGPOH: Following the government order for reopening of places of worship, the Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi has reminded the authorities of all faith groups to strictly comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs). The DC, in an order, stated that necessary measures are to be taken in order to make the SOPs operational and give enough awareness to the faith groups on COVID-19 so as to prevent the spread of the dreaded virus.
