SHILLONG: Northeast United FC on Tuesday announced the signing of fullback Ashutosh Mehta into the side ahead of Season 7 of the ISL.
Ashutosh began his career under Coach Khalid Jamil at Mumbai FC in 2011 and since then he has featured for a host of clubs both in the I-League and the Indian Super League.
He was part of Khalid Jamil’s history-making Aizawl FC side, which in 2017, scripted Indian Football’s biggest underdog story by winning the I-League. Having plied his trade earlier for ISL sides Pune City FC and ATK, Ashutosh returned to Mohun Bagan for the 2019-20 season, and helped the side win their 2nd I-League Title.
Speaking on the appointment, NorthEast United’s First Team Assistant Coach Khalid Jamil said; “I have worked with Ashutosh right from the start of his career and I am proud to see him grow into a top professional. When the opportunity to sign him presented itself, we decided to act quickly and get the deal over the line.”
“Having won 2 I-League titles in the last 4 seasons, we know that Ashutosh brings loads of experience and calibre into the defence.”
