SHILLONG: The Assembly Committee on Women Empowerment, on Thursday, summoned West Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Herbert Lyngdoh, to seek the status of investigation in Mairang rape case.
The Committee took cognizance of the fact that there are as many as 42 pending POCSO cases and normal cases of crime against women in West Khasi Hills.
“We have given the SP some time and report back,” Committee’s chairperson, Ampareen Lyngdoh, said.
The SP informed the Committee that the accused is under arrest and charge sheet is almost complete.
It was also informed that on September 12, an FIR was registered against the accused for allegedly sexually assaulting his own sister and minor twin nieces.
The SP informed that the Committee has requested him to work with the Deputy Commissioner to conduct awareness campaigns in West Khasi Hills, as the district reportedly has a high record of crime against women and children.
