SHILLONG: Mawkyrwat MLA and PHE Minister Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar has proposed to come up with a world-class resort-cum-wellness centre that will utilise the water from the Jakrem hot springs.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Tongkhar said, “It is a very big plan which will have all the facilities and investment may go up to Rs 50 crore. It will be a very unique project”.
He said the government will discuss its plans with the landowners of Jakrem as the government intends to take it on lease so as to beautify the place and to draw water for the resort.
Tongkhar said that following Chief Minister Conrad Sangma’s Switzerland visit, the latter became keen to make Jakrem akin to the hot springs in Switzerland.
Intending to attract tourists, Tongkhar said there are waterfalls that will entice tourists as well but the road is yet to be developed.
