SHILLONG: Chairman of Meghalaya State Planning Board Lambor Malngiang, on Monday, laid the foundation stone for the upgrade of Pomlakrai-Rngi Shillong Road from single to intermediate lane (also known as two-lane roads) including necessary improvement. Lambor was accompanied by Gavin M Mylliem, MLA of Sohra Constituency.
An amount of Rs 3.36 crore has been sanctioned for the project, which will include widening, metalling and black topping of the 1.9-km road. The project has been funded by the World Bank.
Speaking on the occasion, Lambor said that Pomlakrai has long been neglected and it is time that the felt needs of the people are addressed. Seeking the cooperation of all stakeholders, particularly the villagers for the smooth execution of the project, he expressed hope that once completed, the road will prove to be a boon for the people of the area.
Adding that many development initiatives have been undertaken in the area in the past few months, Lambor informed that groundwork is currently on for the establishment of a PHC in Pomlakrai Pyllun to rid people of the hassle to travel all the way to Pomlum PHC for medical attention.
Meanwhile, Gavin M Mylliem, while lauding the efforts of the local MLA in ensuring that the needs of his constituency are heard by the government, said the improvement of the road which connects Laitkor-Pomlakrai-Laitlyngkot will immensely benefit the people, particularly through easing of traffic jams.
