Dry day in EKH
The East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner (Excise) has declared October 25 and 26 as dry day on account of ‘Durga Puja’. All bonded warehouse, IMFL shops and outstill shops in the entire district will have to remain closed on the aforementioned days, the DC said in an order.

Condolence
The members of the Gorkha Secondary School Alumni Association, Upper Shillong, have condoled the demise of Rudra Mani Rai, who was a member of the Association. The association observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed. Rai passed away on October 13.

Dak Adalat
Circle-level ‘Dak Adalat’ will be held in the office of the Chief Postmaster General, North East Circle in Shillong, on October 29 at 11:30 am, a statement said. The ‘Dak Adalat’ will entertain grievances pertaining to postal services. Written complaints can be sent via ordinary or speed post with the subject (‘Dak Adalat’) superscribed on the cover, addressed to the Chief Postmaster General, North East Circle, Shillong, 793001, and it should contain complete address and registration receipt number. On matters relating to Savings Schemes and Postal Life Insurances, the account number, policy number besides full address of the depositor or insurer should be given. The plaints should reach the office on or before October 26.

Ban on herbicides
The West Garo Hills District Magistrate, in an order issued under Section 144 CrPC, has prohibited the sale and purchase of herbicides/weedicides at bazaars and weekly markets in the district without prior permission from the concerned authority. The order which extends to the entire district comes into force with immediate effect and will remain until further orders.
