Two dead in ‘mysterious’ incident
NONGSTOIN: In a peculiar incident, reported deaths of two friends have come to light, leaving many discombobulated. Mairang Police on Monday evening recovered a highly decomposed body of one Phlainingstar Syiemlieh (34) at Kynshi Bangla near NH 44E. Sources said that Phlainingstar was last seen with his friend, Dijestarfield L Nonglait (33) who was also found hanging on the same evening from the ceiling of his house at Kynshi Bangla. According to a complaint filed by the Phlainingstar’s sister, Phlainingstar had not returned home for the last one week. Meanwhile, police investigation is under way.

CRPF raises awareness to fight virus
SHILLONG: The CRPF, as part of its ongoing nationwide COVID-19 awareness campaign, has been organising a series of programmes within Shillong and its neighborhood to raise awareness among people. According to a statement on Tuesday, teams from 67 Battalion, CRPF, have been actively engaged in various parts of the city to raise awareness. “Besides organising a 5-km run in the city to spread the message against the pandemic, teams of the Battalion under its Commandant, Alok Bhattacharya, have placed banners at prominent places within the city to raise awareness about various dos and don’ts that require to be adopted,” the statement added. The teams from the battalion are also actively engaged in spraying disinfectants at public spaces and had also installed sanitiser dispensers at various churches and at Durga Puja pandals.

HNYF moves DC over load-shedding
Nongpoh: The HNYF on Tuesday met the Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner, urging the latter to resolve the issue of frequent and uncalled-for load-shedding in Nongpoh. Speaking to the media persons, HNYF president GH Kharshanlor said the DC has assured them of looking into the matter. It may be mentioned that the HNYF had also met the headmen of Nongpoh area recently to confer about the same issue. “The Federation has decided to take up the matter seriously considering the difficulties faced by the people at large, especially the students who have to use candles and kerosene as an alternative to prepare for their various upcoming examinations which is quite unfortunate,” Kharshanlor said.

Rural mart at Baghmara launched
TURA: A newly established rural mart at Baghmara New Market in South Garo Hills was on Tuesday inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner HB Marak in the presence of SP Priyanshu Pandey, DRDA PD, MT Sangma and other officials of various departments. Speaking on the occasion, Marak said the rural market has been opened with an aim to provide a market for domestic items manufactured by rural community, particularly by women self-help groups or the weaker sections of the society, with an endeavour to provide products at reasonable rates. During the day-long programme, an exhibition of various indigenous foods, handicrafts and artefacts also took place. It may be mentioned that the rural mart has been funded by NABARD under Meghalaya State Rural Livelihoods Society (MSRLS), South Garo Hills.

Developmental projects inaugurated
NONGPOH:  Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem on Tuesday inaugurated two developmental projects in Nongpoh area. During a programme on Tuesday, Syiem inaugurated a community hall at Umskun village and a toilet at Umrangksai village. It may be mentioned that both the schemes have been constructed under the SWRP scheme of the MLA.
