JOWAI: Hours after a strike was called by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) to bar the trucks from plying, the All Jaintia Hills Cement Manufacturing Association (AJHCMA), during a meeting held later in the day, agreed to up the transportation charge as per the rate notified by the state government.
The JAC — comprising All Jaintia Cement and Clinker Transporter’s Association (AJCCTA), the Jaintia Hills Truck Owners Association and the Meghalaya Trucks Union (MTU) — had on Thursday disallowed the cement-carrying trucks from plying in a bid to pressurise the cement plants in Jaintia Hills to raise the transportation charge as per the state government’s directive.
It was after the uncalled-for strike that the EJH Deputy Commissioner on Thursday evening called a meeting, subsequent to which it was decided by the All Jaintia Hills Cement Manufacturing Association (AJHCMA) that it will conform to the government directives.
However, the AJHCMA said that it will raise the charge only within the state.
