SHILLONG: Opposition Congress MLA, Zenith M Sangma on Monday  raised the issue of assault on two social activists who were documenting illegal transportation of coal and questioned why no proper justice had been delivered to them till now.

Recalling that it was on November 8, 2018, social activist, Agnes Kharshiing and Amita Sangma had gone to eastern part of Jaintia Hills to document illegal mining and transportation of coal, Sangma said ,”On that ill-fated day they were targeted by organised criminals who were involved in illegal mining and transportation and assaulted”.

” Somehow they could recover from there injuries after a long time, but till now proper justice have not been given to the victims,” he added.

“It is two years now since the assault took place on the duo. It creates deterrent. People who are saying correct thing  are being targeted. Now who will dare to go visit the places and unearth the truth ?” he asked.

Stating that the preliminary investigation revealed that people who are members of the party in power were apparently  involved, Sangma said, “Working president of Jaintia Hills, Niraman Chullet was identified as the main accused”.

The issue was raised during the special motion moved by Sangma to discuss law and order in the State.
