SHILLONG, Nov 11: In keeping with empower-youths pathway, Meghalaya Government is contemplating to introduce a unique coupon system in the state that will enable youths in the age group of 16-18 years to undergo training to upscale their skills or even follow their hobbies.
Replying to the Opposition queries, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said Meghalaya will be first state in the country to implement this idea.
Stating that every youth has a skill to hone, Conrad banked on the system to ensure that they will have an opportunity to grow with their hobby.
Citing an example, he said that many youths in Meghalaya know how to play musical instruments, but if all of them could also read music, it would add a cherry on the cake. Youths can be trained in different fields including music, football, etc.
Revealing more about the future course of action, Conrad said the government intends to appoint 1,000 service providers from Meghalaya who will be engaged in teaching different skills, adding that they would be certified trainers.
The chief minister maintained that the idea will serve two purposes —training and employment of the youths.
He added that those who would wish to undergo a particular training programme, can approach the service providers with a coupon and they will be trained on skills of their choice.
Earlier, the chief minister had said that the government is recognising young entrepreneurs struggling to progress with their own initiative.
In line with the youth policy, which is at hand, the government apparently intends to connect all the dots.
