Revision of photo electoral rolls

Shillong, Nov 16: A state function on Special Summary Revision (SSR) of photo electoral rolls with reference to January 1, 2021 as qualifying date was held today at the Conference Hall of the office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills.
The programme was organised by the office of the chief electoral officer, Meghalaya in collaboration with the office of the district election officer, East Khasi Hills. F R Kharkongor, chief electoral officer, informed that out of 20, 21,000 eligible voters, 19,60,850 have been enrolled, adding that there is a gap of 60,962 out of which 49,445 is in East Khasi Hills alone.
And the main aim of SSR exercise is to reduce the gap by increasing the enrolment of new voters, he said.
He further added that the Election Commission of India is encouraging citizens to register online at www.nvsp.in.
However taking into consideration the challenges of internet connectivity, particularly in rural areas, he said that 600 Community Service Centres have been roped in to come to the aid of rural masses, so as to bridge the connectivity gap.
As part of the programme, Booth Level Officers (BLO) kits; guidebook – Broad Guidelines for Conduct of General Elections/Bye Elections during COVID -19 and Voters – Towards a COVID Safe Elections and CD’s on Integrated Draft Photo Electoral Rolls were also distributed.
The date for the publication of the integrated draft electoral roll is November 16, 2020 the period for filing of claims and objections is between November 16 – December 16, 2020 and the final electoral roll would be published on January 21, 2021.
Draft electoral rolls
The electoral registration officer of the assembly constituencies of Mawryngkneng, Pynthor-umkhrah, Mawlai, East Shillong, North Shillong, West Shillong, South Shillong, Mylliem, Nongthymmai, Nongkrem, Sohiong, Mawphlang, Mawsynram, Pynursla and Mawkynrew has published the drafts of the last part of electoral rolls with reference to January 1, 2021 as the qualifying date and in accordance with the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960. The same is available for inspection at their offices and record offices/ authorities during working hours in all working days.
In Tura, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh on Monday handed over the draft electoral roll with reference to January 1, 2021 as the qualifying date and elector’s verification programme to representatives of political parties at his office chamber in Tura.
Meanwhile, sub divisional officer (Election) of Dadenggre Civil Sub Division, S F Hamid also informed that draft publication of photo electoral rolls, 2020 of Dadenggre , Raksamgre and Tikrikilla have been prepared in connection with summary revision of photo electoral rolls with reference to January 1, 2021 as qualifying date.
