Webinar on political devp since Independence in NE

SHILLONG, Nov 18: A regional webinar was organised by the departments of History and Political Science, Sankardev College, Shillong, on the theme ‘Political Developments since Independence in North East India (1947-1972)’ on Wednesday.
Teachers and students from different colleges and universities of Meghalaya attended the online event.
Prof (Retd) RK Satapathy, Department of Political Science, NEHU, Shillong, and former Honorary Director of the ICCSSR-NERC-Shillong, spoke on the topic ‘Constitutional Development in Northeast India’.
Dr Binayak Dutta, Assistant Professor, Department of History, NEHU, gave a historical overview of the ‘Integration of states into the Indian Union with reference to the states of Manipur, Khasi states and Tripura’.
Prof (Retd) LS Gassah, Department of Political Science, NEHU, also former Honorary Director of the ICCSSR-NERC-Shillong, spoke on the topic ‘The Sixth Schedule: History and Dynamics (Since 1949)’.
The inaugural programme was chaired by EM Tariang, HoD of Political Science. An audio-visual presentation of the keynote concept was also played.
In her inaugural address, college Principal Dr Eureka FP Lyngdoh highlighted the importance of awareness on political and historical developments of the Northeastern states and their significance to comprehend the contemporary political situation in the region.
Lyngdoh also thanked the resource persons for consenting to address the webinar.
