CM apprises Union minister of plan to shape youths in M’laya

SHILLONG, Nov 19: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, on Thursday, apprised Union Education Minister Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ of the state government’s driveway to ensure that every youth in Meghalaya is trained in a particular skill of their choice.
“We have decided to be the first state where every youth is trained in a certain skill. We want our youths to get the opportunity to follow their passion and talent”, Sangma said during the 4th Convocation Ceremony of Sharda University, Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
The chief minister also lauded the Ministry of Education, Government of India, for initiating policy intervention to improve the education scenario in the country.
On the day, the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma was conferred with an honorary degree — ‘Honoris Causa’ — by the University.
Pokhriyal was also conferred with an honorary degree.
In his address, the chief minister said that it is important for educators and leaders to focus on the development of the youths. “We need to shape the youths in a positive manner and take this country forward. We need to shape young people to be responsible students and citizens of our country,” he said.
“It is my focus that every citizen and youths of the state is productive. It is not the quantity but the quality that matters. Be the best you can to contribute to the society, the state, the country and Mother Earth. He lauded the outstanding performance of the students”, he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Education Minister Dr Pokhriyal said, “During the COVID-19 pandemic, we showed how challenges turn into opportunities. This is possible only when our talented students tap themselves and contribute to the progress of the country. Students will have to contribute significantly in nation building and developing the country”.
The Union minister congratulated Sharda University and its Chancellor PK Gupta for achieving rank in NIRF.
He also expressed joy over the fact that over 2,000 students from 56 countries study in the university.
A total of 3,593 undergraduates and 1,203 post graduates were awarded degrees virtually. Thirty doctoral degrees and gold medalists were awarded during the convocation ceremony.
The most modern library was also inaugurated before the programme started.
A total of 26 students received gold medals. 6 students were awarded the Chancellor’s Medal. 3 students received the Chancellor’s Medal.
The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks from the Pro Vice Chancellor of Sharda University.
