NONGSTOIN, Nov 23: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) Mawshynrut Circle has reiterated its demand for a MeECL Sub-Division at Mawshynrut.
In a memorandum to the Chairman-cum-Director, Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL), Arun Kumar Kembhavi, the organisation reminded the former of the issues faced by the people of Mawshynrut from time to time.
In a statement issued here on Monday, the FKJGP said that it has followed up on the issue for five times since 2009 but there has been no response from the state government.
Stating that as many as 1,592 villages with 17,734 households were electrified which generates revenue of around Rs 35 lakh per month, the FKJGP said that the MeECL Sub Division at Sonapahar Riangdo was created in 1979 and functions from Shillong Sub Division.
Till date, most of the work is monitored from Nongstoin, which has created a lot of problems in terms of bill payment, consumer grievances etc, the statement said. In this context, the FKJGP urged the government to expedite the implementation of the sub-division for the betterment of the people in the area.
