TURA, Nov 24: The District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO), WGH, has informed that a three-pronged stratagem to tackle the menace of drug will be implemented in East Khasi Hills, West Garo Hills and West Jaintia Hills.
It may be mentioned that the three districts were recently identified as the most vulnerable ones in terms of substance abuse.
WGH DSWO, Hemaritha Sangma, was speaking at a one-day training of master volunteers under Nasha-Mukt Bharat Abhiyan in Tura on Tuesday.
Sangma said the three-pronged stratagem will comprise narcotics bureau, outreach or awareness by social justice and treatment by Health department.
She added that the Nasha-Mukt Committee has formulated plans to conduct awareness programmes in the district with the support of Health and Police department to identify the abusers and refer them to rehabilitation centres or hospitals for counselling and treatment.
West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh, during the programme, informed that it is everyone’s responsibility to promulgate awareness on the ill-effects of substance abuse.
He also exhorted one and all, especially the youths, to steer clear of such practices.
