Parish clarifies on donations for construction

TURA, Nov 24: Following the opposition from locals with regard to the donations for constructing a school building at St Thomas Higher Secondary School and a new church building, the Parish Council of the Corpus Christi Church in Mendipathar has clarified that donations of fixed amounts from students towards the construction were taken only in the initial stages.
According to the Parish Council, mandatory contributions have been stopped and a decision was taken to accept only willing contributions.
With regard to the pending salaries of school teachers, which was also questioned by the people, the Parish Council said the decision was taken due to the current COVID-19 situation.
The clarification pointed out that all Catholic institutions under Tura Diocese were doing the same and disbursing only half salary to the teachers owing to the current situation.
