Conrad, Mukul pay tributes to Gogoi

SHILLONG, Nov 25: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Opposition leader Mukul Sangma on Wednesday paid tributes to Congress stalwart and former Assam Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi, in Guwahati.
“Paid my respects to Assam’s son and tallest political stalwart of the North East, (L) Tarun Gogoi ji who was a father figure to many. His demise is a great loss to the entire North East,” Conrad tweeted after paying tributes.
Mukul, during his Guwahati visit, was accompanied by Congress MLAs Charles Pyngrope and HM Shangpliang, among other party functionaries. “Whenever there was a crisis in Northeast, we used to approach Gogoi ji. He was a collective voice of the people of the region,” Mukul said.
Gogoi, who is the three-time chief minister of Assam, passed away on Monday while undergoing treatment for post-COVID-19 complications. Gogoi will be cremated at Nabagraha crematorium in Guwahati on Thursday afternoon instead of his hometown Titabor. (With inputs from PTI)
