SHILLONG, Dec 15: Following receipt of complaints from the people en masse, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Isawanda Laloo has directed the District Transport Officer (DTO) to take stringent action against local taxis and other commercial vehicles in the advent of fares being inflated besides non-adherence to the approved capacity limit.
The DC further asked the DTO to take steps for fixing taxi fares for all routes across the district in consultation with different taxi associations.
A large number of local taxis and commercial vehicles are reportedly charging the passengers exorbitant fares, the DC informed.
The DTO has also been asked to inform the taxi associations that the proposal for relaxation of seating capacity, as requested earlier, has been taken up with the Commissioner of Transport and Health department.
