SHILLONG, Dec 16: In view of the vexing traffic snarls along the stretch from Umiam to Garikhana, Opposition Chief Whip PT Sawkmie has petitioned East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Isawanda Laloo urging her to allow vehicles to ply to and fro from Mawiong to Mawlai Umshing and vice versa.
The legislator said that the there was a proposal earlier to allow movement of vehicles from both ways on Mawlai Bypass.
A visit to the Bypass revealed that very few vehicles ply on the road, which was inaugurated few years back with an idea to de-congest Mawlai.
The request comes from the Opposition MLA at a time when the entire stretch starting Umiam to Garikhana is jam packed with vehicles often leading to traffic jam in the area.
