Rs 57 lakh looted from Agra bank
Agra, Dec 16: Four armed bandits have disappeared with Rs 57 lakh from a branch of the Indian Overseas Bank in Agra after holding the bank staff hostage. They have vanished without a trace, police said.
The loot took place in the IOB branch near Rohta on Gwalior Road on Tuesday evening.
A police investigation is underway, looking for the unidentified masked intruders who carried out the daring robbery at the bank minutes before it was about to close for the day.
Bank branch Manager Anita Meena was with her three colleagues at the bank when the bandits entered the premises and held all of them hostage before decamping with the booty. (IANS)
Wildlife smuggling racket busted
Jajpur (Odisha), Dec 16: A wildlife smuggling racket was busted in Odishas Jajpur district on Wednesday and two persons were arrested in this connection, a forest official said. Acting on a tip-off, a team of forest officials from Jajpur Road conducted a raid in Bhikipur reserve forest area and caught the miscreants, he said.
Five antlers, a tusk and a rare chameleon, worth several lakhs, were recovered from their possession. However, two others involved in the racket managed to escape during the raid, the official said. (PTI)
Cop on duty hurt in sword attack
Mangaluru, Dec 16: A head constable was attacked with a sword by an unidentified assailant in broad daylight here on Wednesday, police said.
Ganesh Kamath, who was on duty near New Chithra junction, received injuries on his hand and was immediately taken to hospital. He is stated to be out of danger.
The assailant came on a bike and fled the spot soon after the attack the reason behind which was not known, police said. A case had been registered and a search was on for the assailant, they added. (PTI)
Imposter cheats man of Rs 1 crore
Bengaluru, Dec 16: A man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly cheating another to the tune of Rs one crore by posing as a influential politician, police said.
The house of the accused was raided and Rs 26 lakh in cash and cheques for Rs 91 crore were seized, the police said. Yuvaraj got himself photographed with important people to convince the victims that he was a well connected politico, they said.
Showing the photographs, he allegedly duped many people by promising them government jobs and getting government work done, the police said.
On a complaint from one of the victims, Yuvaraj was arrested, they added. (PTI)
