TURA, Dec 18: A team of police and BSF troopers on Thursday apprehended a suspected peddler at an entry point in South West Garo Hills while trying to enter the region from Assam’s Mankachar border town.
It may be mentioned that attempts by peddlers and criminals to use Garo Hills as a staging point for distributing narcotics continue unabated with banned substances persistently flowing in from Assam and Bangladesh.
The apprehended man has, meanwhile, reportedly confessed to police that he was smuggling in the drugs to deliver them to someone else.
Police have launched an investigation to identify the recipient.
“He was carrying 3,499 tablets of suspected Yaba drugs when he was apprehended at Monabari police check point in our district yesterday,” informed South West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, Rituraj Ravi, on Friday.
