SHILLONG, Dec 23: State Agriculture Minister, Banteidor Lyngdoh, has stressed on the need for training to state-based farmers in order to better the working environment for them. He was speaking at an inaugural programme of the administrative building of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) under the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare on Wednesday at Upper Shillong.
Stating that the KVKs are successful because of necessary training, Lyngdoh announced that KVKs will soon be inaugurated in West Khasi Hills and West Jaintia Hills, which will benefit youths.
As for talks of enhancing the budget of Agriculture department, Lyngdoh said he had taken up the matter with the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma. However, with the latter testing positive for COVID-19, the progress of talks has been suspended.
Krishi Vigyan Kendra acts as a small laboratory and extension centre of agricultural research. The building was funded by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).
