SHILLONG, Dec 30: The headman of Syllei U Lar in Umroi area, K Nongbsap, has registered a complaint at Umiam Police Station against the in-charge of Khapmara Police Outpost, Amit Sinha, and KSU member, Banjop Marsing, for allegedly threatening and abusing him. It was informed that the incident had taken place when the headman was questioning the police for allowing overladen vehicles to ply on the Dwar-Ksuid Bridge on Shillong Bypass.
Nongbsap said the entire area was witnessing traffic snarls since Tuesday night, which is why he, along with others, visited the site to take stock of the ground situation.
“As per the order of the Transport department, vehicles only less than 10 metric tonnes of gross weight are allowed to ply from Dwar Ksuid bridge. However, heavy vehicles including coal-laden trucks were seen plying through the bridge,” a disgruntled Nongbsap, who has also vowed to file a complaint with DGP in this regard, said.
It was after this, the headman apprised Ri Bhoi SP of the issue and Sinha was sent to the spot. However, Sinha, along with the KSU member and few others, allegedly abused and threatened him.
Nongbsap accused Sinha of confiscating his phone where he had recorded the proceedings of the heavy vehicles plying on the bridge notwithstanding the prohibition.
Plaint against headman
