BSF, police destroy hemp in SWGH

SHILLONG, Dec 31: The Border Security Force (BSF), in collusion with Meghalaya Police, on Thursday destroyed illegal hemp planted in more than half acre of land in South West Garo Hills.
According to the BSF, the police, subsequent to receiving a tip-off from the 28 Battalion of BSF, conducted a joint operation, following which illegal hemp plants were set ablaze at Bhoiragopi village in South West Garo Hills.
The growth of hemp was at the final stage and ripe enough to be consumed as a psychotropic substance. The land used for cultivation belongs to one Mohiran Hajong, the statement said.
